Los Angeles, July 16 (IANS) Michael Jackson’s sudden death has made him once again the most dominant musical figure on the planet.
His recordings have dominated the US pop charts for the third consecutive week ending Wednesday – counting a sale of more than 9 million of the singer’s albums since his death June 25.
Nielsen SoundScan said Jackson’s albums sold 1.1 million copies over the last seven days and had combined to sell an impressive 2.3 million in the US in the nearly three weeks since he died, reports the Los Angeles Times.
According to the Los Angeles Times an unidentified source with knowledge of sales figures for the catalog said that more than 9 million Jackson albums have been sold worldwide since June 25.
Sony Music, which controls the catalog of his solo adult recordings, declines as a policy to comment on sales issues, but a spokeswoman for the label did not dispute the accuracy of the 9-million figure.
Jackson’s music has also topped the pop charts in countries including France, Germany, Australia and Britain during the same period.

London, July 12 (ANI): Late Michael Jackson had been popping a total of 55 different pills everyday in his final six months, according to reports.
The news came in line with the announcement that results of drug tests on the ‘Thriller’ singer’s brain and blood will be delayed further.
The decision was made after 28 prescription medicines were found at his rented mansion in LA, reports the Daily Star.
Drug Enforcement Agency officers have found dozens of bottles, boxes and bags of pills while searching the property in Holmby Hills where Jackson died.
Among other drugs they seized the highly dangerous surgical anaesthetic Propofol, which is legally available only to hospital patients and is administered via intravenous injection.
Propofol comes under the list of drugs found under the trade name Diprivan.
According to experts, without proper monitoring, the drug could lead to cardiac arrest -which ultimately caused Jackson’s death.
One LA-based doctor described the astonishing cache of drugs as a “guaranteed cocktail of death”.
It included the potent painkillers Demerol and OxyContin. (ANI)
Washington, July 13 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s sister La Toya has revealed that the legend’s eleven-year-old daughter, Paris, has been writing letters to him everyday after his death.
“She wears Michael T-shirts every day and the walls of her room are covered with posters and pictures of her daddy. She still writes him letters every day, sweet lovely letters about how much she loves him. Her letters are brilliant. When you read them you cry,” Contactmusic quoted La Toya as saying.
The 53-year-old sibling of Jackson also added that Paris bought a ‘mood’ chain to place in her father’s coffin before he was buried.
The necklace, which had a metal heart on it that changes colour when it touches someone’s skin, divides into two.
And Paris kept half of it and said she will wear it “forever”.
La Toya said: “The heart is in two pieces. Paris told me, ‘I want one half to go to daddy and I will wear the other half forever’. She carefully wrapped it around his wrist. She said, ‘Daddy, this is for you’… I put one of his sequined gloves in there. And a pair of his favourite sunglasses.” (ANI)
London, July 12 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s three children remained with his lifeless body for half an hour in a cold hospital emergency room to say goodbye to the late star, the singer’s closest sister has revealed.
La Toya Jackson revealed how she took the kids Prince Michael I, 12, Paris, 11, and Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7 to see their father, whose sudden death on June 25 left people stunned all over the world.
“It was Paris who said she wanted to see her daddy ‘one last time’. So I took them into the room. There was a towel over his face. I lifted it and Paris said, ‘Oh Daddy, I love you’,” the News of the World quoted La Toya as saying.
“We hugged, and I kissed him on the forehead and the children lifted up his hands. He just didn’t look like he was gone. His eyes were half open, it was as if he was resting.
“The kids had been screaming – but once they were in that room and saw Michael they stopped and became calm,” she added.
La Toya also said: “We all said prayers out loud over him. We did that quite a few times over half an hour. When we walked out that room the kids didn’t cry. They were silent. They had closure.”
The singer further revealed how Paris continues to write letters to her late father and tied a farewill gift, a one half of her favourite split-heart necklace, onto his arm in the coffin.
She said: “She still writes him letters – sweet lovely letters about how much she loves him. Michael told us Paris always wrote notes for him.” (ANI)
